SEMH Free School, Blaby, Leicestershire – CONSULTATION FEEDBACK

Foxfields Academy

Due to Covid-19, this consultation took place online.

The consultation window opened on Tuesday 12th May 2020 and closed on Monday 22nd June 2020.

The need for a SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school in Leicestershire has been identified by Leicestershire County Council and the Department for Education.

The Community Inclusive Trust (CIT) was approved as sponsor by the Secretary of State for Education on 27th February 2020.

Foxfields Academy will be a 50-place school for primary and secondary aged pupils and is being developed on the former Oakfield School site in Blaby, Leicestershire.

Admissions to the school will be for those pupils having an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) issued by the Local Authority.

The proposed opening date for the new school is September 2020.

CIT Academies direct mailed local schools, further education providers, local-councillors, MPs, District and Parish Councils. The Trust also advertised in the Leicester Mercury hard copy edition and online. The consultation was also shared on a regular basis via social media, inviting feedback.

CIT asked the following question and welcomed comments:

Should CIT enter into a funding agreement with the Secretary of State?

Received via email 19.5.2020:

We fully welcome the provision of a school that specialises in Social, Emotional and Mental Health of pupils especially those that are on an EHCP given that the number of pupils with these plans has increased in recent years and as a result demand for places are high this is a welcome development.

Please keep us updated with how the consultation goes and look forward to working with you and Foxfields Academy so that children and families within South Leicestershire and the wider area can benefit from having a specialist dedicated academy that places the Social, Emotional and Mental Health of pupils at its heart.

Thank you for sending over the information regarding the Foxfields Consultation.

This was taken to our committee meeting on Tuesday 26th May and discussed. It was agreed that what you are doing is absolutely fantastic and agree that there is a need for this provision within the Parish. The Parish Council are 100% happy to help and support you going forward.
