Reading at home
Why is reading at home important?
Reading at home helps children become confident readers.
When children read regularly outside school, they practise the skills they learn in class and begin to enjoy reading as part of daily life.
Even a few minutes each day can make a big difference.
Reading at home helps children improve fluency. This means reading words smoothly, accurately and with expression.
The more children read, the more words they learn. This builds vocabulary and helps them understand what they read. It also helps them share ideas clearly when speaking and writing.
