🧠 Friday Focus: Navigating Mental Health Advice on Social Media
More children and young people are turning to social media for mental health advice , but much of what they see is unverified, oversimplified, or simply misleading. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram can blur the lines between genuine support and harmful misinformation, especially when clinical language and viral trends are misused.
This week’s Friday Focus explores why these platforms have become go‑to sources and how this can impact young people’s understanding of their own wellbeing.
💬 What can parents and educators do?
Our latest guide offers practical, expert‑led strategies to help counter misinformation, including:
Encouraging open, honest conversations
Helping young people identify reliable, trustworthy sources
Strengthening school–home partnerships to provide consistent support
By building critical thinking, resilience and confidence, we can empower young people to recognise credible information and seek appropriate professional help when they need it.
Together, we can help them navigate online spaces safely and confidently. 💛
