What is the PE and Sport Premium
The PE and Sport Premium is an additional layer of funding received by schools. It is ring-fenced so can only be spent on improving the quality and breadth of PE and School Sport. It has been doubled to support schools to implement the government’s Obesity Strategy and to support the health and wellbeing of all young people in the school.

How is it used?
Foxfields use the Sports Premium funding to make additional improvements to the quality and provision of Physical Education (PE), Physical activity and sport. These improvements aim to be sustainable and to maximise the well being of all the pupils.

Below shows how we use the premium to secure improvements in the 5 key indicators:

1.  Engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
Implementation at Foxfields
• Physical Education (PE) and Enrichment as part of every pupil’s timetable, coordinated/delivered by a qualified PE teachers and Outdoor Education Instructor
• Employment of two qualified PE teachers to deliver high quality PE lessons
• A designated activity lead at Playtimes to provide a sports based activity accessible for all pupils.
• Weekly swimming lessons with qualified instructors (Covid-19 Dependant).
• Development of a tracking and assessment system including a specific PE and Outdoor education criteria to be able to monitor the progress of all pupils in PE and Outdoor Education.

Benefits for pupils
• Daily opportunities for pupils to be physically active.
• Enrichment provides an additional and alternative option for physical activity and significantly broadens the offer of activities alongside PE.
• Pupils develop communication and social interaction skills.
• Pupils develop life skills including learning to swim.
• Unstructured times are maximised for opportunities to be active.

2.  Profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement

3.  Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
Implementation at Foxfields – Commitment to ongoing professional development of PE staff.
• We have added to our team through the employment of two qualified PE teachers.
• We have employed an Outdoor Education lead to extend the physical activity access and to offer alternative provision which helps pupils gain both gross and fine motor skills.

Benefits for pupils
• All PE and Enrichment lessons are delivered by qualified, in-house staff who can offer high quality lessons within their field.
• A wider range of Physical activities to participate in.

4.  Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
Implementation at Foxfields
• We have a tailored PE curriculum to meet all pupils needs at Foxfields.
• We include Outdoor education into our curriculum meaning pupils can access a wider range of physical activities
• A designated activity lead at Playtimes to provide a sports based activity accessible for all pupils.

Benefits for pupils
• All pupils, regardless of disability, are able to access an inclusive PE and Enrichment curriculum.
• Pupils have opportunities to be active throughout the school day, developing the understanding of the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle.

5.  Increased participation in competitive sport
Implementation at Foxfields
• The school are committed to inter-school events and facilitate competitive fixtures against peer schools in a variety of different sports. (Covid-19 Dependant)
• The school are always proactive in seeking and participating in local competitions and events

Benefits for pupils
• Pupils are provided with the opportunity to compete, socially interact with pupils outside of their school and experience travel for away fixtures.
• Pupils gain an understanding of competitive sport and develop important skills such as respect in winning and losing.

Due to the current situation with Covid-19, some of the above activities are not currently available/have been tailored to meet the school Covid-19 risk assessment.
